How and where to buy?
Women have frequently used laces to emphasize their feminine presence. Traditionally, royal family members wore dresses with ample lace work on them. Therefore, there is an aura of richness and royalty associated with these dresses.
Laces are used on all varieties of women’s dresses, be they tunics, skater dresses, maxis, peplum dresses, or off shoulder varieties.
Many lace dresses have laces used like fabric. This lace fabric is overlaid on underlying dress made from thicker and darker fabrics such as satin or poly crepe. Laces in lighter shades on such fabrics subdue the shine and colors of the underlying fabrics, giving the dress a sophisticated look. Some lace dresses for women, however, are covered with laces which are of the same color as the underlying fabric. Usually, such dresses are off shoulder dresses with lace covering the lady’s neck, shoulders, and even arms. The lace in such dresses rests directly on the skin of the lady giving the wearer a seductive look. The color of skin that is visible through the thin lace design also emphasizes the design, and lends a sense of delicateness to the woman’s persona.
It is also not necessary that all lace dresses for women are completely covered with lace. Fashion designers creatively use laces to create unique designs on women’s dresses. Therefore, some of the women’s dresses qualifying as lace dresses, actually have lace embellishments to adorn the buttons, or collars. Other lace dresses may have the underlying dress fabric diagonally covered with lace effectively leaving one shoulder with underlying fabric and other shoulder with lace on it. Such designs have mesmerizing effect. Usually, though, laces are used near hem lines.
Different varieties of laces are also used to make lace dresses for women. Some of these laces are stiffer varieties. The tread used to make laces may also differ in thickness. Traditionally, cotton was used to make laces. Nowadays, there are laces made from synthetic threads. These synthetic threads give laces a shine that is not possible with natural threads. Stiffness in lace may also be due to the lace’s design.
Maintenance of lace dresses requires some patience and knowledge about maintaining such dresses. Nevertheless, ladies are willing to put in that effort for looking elegant and graceful.
